Awareness Raising on Afghanistan constitution
Inauguration Ceremony of Awareness Raising on Afghanistan constitution in Kabul Zone
Hamida Barmaki Organization for the Rule of Law (HBORL) with great cooperation and financial support of Open Society Afghanistan inaugurated the Awareness Raising on Afghanistan Constitution project with the purpose of enhancing of public knowledge to the importance of Afghanistan Constitution in Kabul Zone. Whereas, Awareness Raising on Afghanistan Constitution project is designed to be implemented in 24 months and cover eight main zones of Afghanistan and the activities will be conducted in the zone centers where the representative of civil societies activist from all 34 provinces under the zone are invited.
Moreover, following agencies are the most significant partners which may facilitate to achieve the expected goals of the project; International IDEA, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Haj, Deputy Minister of Youth , Independent Commission of Oversight on Implementation of Constitution “ICOIC”, Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commissions ( AIHRC ), Free and fair election Forum (FEFA), Transparent Election Foundation Afghanistan ( TEFA ), District Development Assemblies (DDA), Provincial council members ( PCM ), Mosques and religious Madrasas, Afghan CSOs, Youth and Women Group, Public and private universities, Private and public schools and Media.
The program started with the opening remarks of Dr. Abdul Rauf Herawi the secretary and member of The Independent Commission for Overseeing the Implementation of Constitution and Mr. Sayed Hameed Zia the Executive director of Hamida Barmaki Organization for the Rule of Law. And continued with the participation of the member of Independent Commission for Overseeing the Implementation of Constitution, representatives of Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, member of Provincial Council-Kabul, member of Department of Youths of Ministry of Information and Culture. Members of the Afghan Youth Parliament, and civil activists from Kabul, Parwan, Panjshir, Kapisa, Wardak, Logar and Ghazni provinces.
In the second part of the program, there was a Public Lecture session on Afghanistan Constitution for students of public and private universities. And majority subjects of the prepared literature guide ( by OSA and HBORL ) on Afghanistan Constitution have been discussed including general definition on Afghanistan Constitution, Principles and Concepts as (Constitution, State, Democracy, Rule of Law, Legitimacy, Citizenship, and Identity, Power-sharing, Good Governance). Meanwhile Afghanistan Constitutional Experience, History and development of Afghanistan Constitutions, Constitution-building in Afghanistan/the Loya Jirga, Constitution and Society, National identity, Constitution and State, National Assembly, Constitution and Democracy, Elections, Electoral systems, Constitution and Human Rights with focusing on women’s rights and rights of minorities discussed in details.
Furthermore, Participants were actively engaged with lots of interest and eagerness in program and they appreciated the initiative of such program by Hamida Barmaki Organization for the Rule of Law and Open Society Afghanistan organizations, and considered the Awareness Raising on Afghanistan Constitution program very useful and dire need in districts of provinces and requested its extension in other provinces as well.
